Can a thought, or lack thereof, change your internal biology and external expression? This talk examines the science of transformation following intensive meditation retreats, as seen through changes in DNA, biochemistry, physiology, and expression.
In collaboration with Dr. Joe Dispenza, Dr. Patel has studied more than 8,000 subjects to uncover ancient biology and demonstrate how evolving our thoughts is a pathway to evolving ourselves and the world.
Dr. Hemal Patel is a Tenured Professor and Vice-Chair for Development and Advancement in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of California, San Diego, and has a dual appointment as a VA Research Career Scientist and VA Research Pharmacologist at the VA San Diego Healthcare System. He obtained his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the Medical College of Wisconsin and did postdoctoral work at UCSD in the Department of Pharmacology under Paul Insel (2002-2005). He has made seminal contributions to the investigation of how membrane structure affects cell, organ, and organismal physiology and metabolism, with implications for cardiac ischemia-reperfusion injury, heart failure, diabetic cardiomyopathy, aging, pulmonary hypertension, cancer, and neurodegeneration. He is currently working on a new line of research to identify the molecular and biochemical signatures generated during meditation that influence human health and disease management. His focus on energetics in cell biology touches on all of these and serves as a control point for managing and empowering human health resilience.
